F.A.Q.
Why was Rebel Time started and why?
Rebel Time was founded in 2008 in order to support independent, socially-conscious, political punk music, which often receives very little to no support. We base our label on the “having your laugh & having your say” philosophy and we are hopeful our label can reflect a growing culture of critical thinking, self-management and resistance. As we continue to grow, we are slowly adding new members and receiving support from the usual amazing suspects.
Where is Rebel Time based?
We are situated in South-western Ontario, Canada. We are technically based in both Hamilton and Kitchener/Waterloo but are proud to call Hamilton our official home; a working class city with a long history of punk rock and community struggle.
Tell me about the Hamilton Punk Rock Matinee I've been hearing about!
This is an all ages, licensed event we host roughly every 2-3 months in Hamilton. You can check out some flyers in the press section of our website. These shows are our inspiration and we've been lucky enough to have all of our bands and many many other bands featured thus far. We try as hard as possible to create a positive, creative and accessible space, in order to do our part to support the music that we love as well as provide touring bands with a solid gig in Ontario. We would like to take this space to thank all the folks that make the event possible and enjoyable for us and also everyone else.
Does my college radio station have your bands music?
We mail out music to about 40 college stations across Canada and hopefully this includes yours. Please request and/or play our bands!
But I have my own Radio Show / Podcast which is not on a campus, what about me?
We do physical mailouts to a select group of shows and try to send mp3s as much as possible. If you have a show, please contact our general mailbox with information about your show, links to your website and any other useful information. We may decide to provide you with some free music. Please, serious inquiries only. Being fans of the music ourselves, we often purchase music to play on our own radio show, so we hope you will do the same whenever possible.
Do you accept demos?
We love getting music from bands but we realize that this can be a big expense. For this reason, you can mail us physical copies of your music or mp3s. If you send us mp3s, please be sure to include artwork (if possible) and any other useful information (links to videos, websites etc).
What kind of music is your label willing to release?
We're a punk label, which means we are down with punk, ska, oi, hardcore, street punk and any combinations of these. It's nearly impossible to really narrow our sound down because we like so many styles. If you like our bands and are down with our message, consider sending us your music, you never know (even if you don't quite fit into the above descriptions).
You have your own radio show broadcast on the FM dial and podcast, how cool! How can I get my label's/band's music on your show?
Send us an email about your band first, with some links where we can hear your songs. If we like what we hear, we will get in touch!
Wait, you have a radio show? Tell me more!
Our program "Rebel Time Radio" can be heard on 100.3 SoundFM, CKMS Waterloo, Ontario. SoundFM is a campus community radio station which is run as a charity and is maintained by a programmers co-operative of which we are a part. If you do not live in the area, you can listen to the show online at http://www.soundfm.ca or download our podcasts. SoundFM has been a place for underground culture since 1977 and we are very happy to be part of that rich history.
